Puerto Rico on Points: 7 Best Hotels to Book With Hyatt, Marriott, and More in 2026

Sarah ColeApril 6, 202614 min read

Puerto Rico is the easiest Caribbean trip you can take from the mainland US -- no passport, no currency exchange, no international data roaming. It is also one of the best destinations for points travelers. With 38+ hotels bookable across five major loyalty programs, the island offers everything from 8,000-point budget stays to ultra-luxury Ritz-Carlton Reserve nights at 278,500 points.

The real story here is Hyatt. All seven World of Hyatt properties on the island rank in the top seven by cents-per-point value. If you have Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt points, Puerto Rico is one of the best places to use them.

Here are the 7 best Puerto Rico hotels to book with points in 2026, ranked by CPP value. All rates below are based on actual award pricing and cash rates scraped from official hotel websites across a 90-day booking window.

1. Hyatt Place Manatí -- World of Hyatt (Best Value)

Program: World of Hyatt Points: 8,000--9,500/night (dynamic) | Cash: $138--$337/night Best CPP: 4.21¢ | Avg CPP: 2.35¢ Transfer: Chase UR 1:1 | Bilt 1:1 (both instant)

The best CPP value in all of Puerto Rico, and it is not even close. At just 8,000 points per night, Hyatt Place Manatí delivers an average of 2.35 cents per point -- a number that rivals top-tier Maldives redemptions.

Manatí is about 45 minutes west of San Juan on the northern coast. It is not the most glamorous location, but it puts you near the Cueva del Indio archaeological site and the beaches of Mar Chiquita and Los Tubos. If you are renting a car to explore the island (and you should), this is an excellent base that saves you massive points compared to San Juan hotels.

The Hyatt Place brand delivers consistent quality: free breakfast, modern rooms, and a pool. At 8,000 points per night, a 5-night stay costs just 40,000 Hyatt points -- that is 40,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards transferred 1:1.

---

2. Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico -- World of Hyatt (Best Flagship)

Program: World of Hyatt Points: 20,000--23,000/night (dynamic) | Cash: $233--$642/night Best CPP: 3.08¢ | Avg CPP: 1.79¢ Transfer: Chase UR 1:1 | Bilt 1:1 (both instant)

This is the flagship Hyatt in Puerto Rico and one of the best points hotels in the Caribbean. The Grand Reserve sits on a stretch of Coco Beach in Río Grande, about 25 minutes east of San Juan, with direct access to El Yunque National Forest.

The property features multiple pools, a lazy river, a casino, and ocean-view suites. Cash rates regularly hit $500--$642 per night in peak season -- at 20,000 points, that is over 3 cents per point. Even the average redemption delivers 1.79¢ per point, well above the break-even threshold.

For a 5-night stay at standard pricing, you need 100,000 Hyatt points (100,000 Chase UR transferred 1:1). That offsets roughly $1,800 in cash rates. This is the resort experience pick.

---

3. Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde -- World of Hyatt (Best Beach Location)

Program: World of Hyatt Points: 15,000/night | Cash: $175--$322/night Best CPP: 2.15¢ | Avg CPP: 1.41¢ Transfer: Chase UR 1:1 | Bilt 1:1 (both instant)

Isla Verde is the strip of beachfront hotels closest to San Juan airport, and the Hyatt Centric is the best points option in the area. At a flat 15,000 points per night, you get beachfront access without the inflated pricing of Condado.

The hotel is modern, walkable to restaurants and bars along Isla Verde Avenue, and just 10 minutes from SJU airport. It is the most convenient Hyatt on the island for short trips.

A 4-night stay runs 60,000 Hyatt points -- offsetting $700--$1,288 in cash rates. Solid value for beachfront in the San Juan metro area.

---

4. Hyatt Place San Juan -- World of Hyatt (Best Budget Pick)

Program: World of Hyatt Points: 12,000/night | Cash: $139--$525/night Best CPP: 4.38¢ | Avg CPP: 1.61¢ Transfer: Chase UR 1:1 | Bilt 1:1 (both instant)

Hyatt Place San Juan is in the Convention District, walking distance to Condado and a short ride to Old San Juan. At 12,000 points per night, it hits a sweet spot between budget and location.

The best CPP here is 4.38 cents per point on peak dates when cash rates spike to $525 -- those are the dates where points booking makes the most difference. Even the average of 1.61¢ per point is strong.

This is the smart pick for travelers who want to be in San Juan proper without paying Condado resort prices. Free breakfast, modern rooms, and 12,000 points per night. A 5-night trip costs 60,000 Hyatt points.

---

5. Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve -- Marriott Bonvoy (Best Splurge)

Program: Marriott Bonvoy Points: 191,000--278,500/night (dynamic) | Cash: $1,695--$4,095/night Best CPP: 1.47¢ | Avg CPP: 0.89¢ Transfer: Chase UR 1:1 | Amex MR 1:1 (+25% bonus) | Bilt 1:1 5th Night Free: Yes (book 5, pay 4 in points)

This is one of the most exclusive hotel properties in the Caribbean. Dorado Beach is a Ritz-Carlton Reserve -- there are only a handful in the world. It sits on a 1,400-acre former Rockefeller estate with a private beach, a 5-acre spa, and rooms that start at $1,695 per night in cash.

The points cost is eye-watering: 191,000 to 278,500 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. But with Marriott's 5th Night Free benefit, a 5-night stay at standard pricing costs 764,000 points instead of 955,000 -- saving you 191,000 points.

The CPP at 0.89¢ average is not the best by the numbers, but this property is about the experience, not the spreadsheet. If you have a massive Marriott balance or the Amex transfer bonus (1:1 + 25%), this is one of the most memorable ways to spend points in the Caribbean.

---

6. Caribe Hilton -- Hilton Honors (Best for Hilton Loyalists)

Program: Hilton Honors Points: 70,000--590,000/night (dynamic) | Cash: $251--$1,089/night Best CPP: 0.86¢ | Avg CPP: 0.47¢ Transfer: Amex MR 1:2 | Bilt 1:1 5th Night Free: Yes (with Hilton elite status or Aspire card)

The Caribe Hilton is an iconic property -- it is where the piña colada was invented in 1954. Sitting on a 17-acre peninsula in San Juan with its own private beach, it offers a resort experience in the city.

Let us be honest about the numbers: the average CPP of 0.47¢ is poor. Hilton uses aggressive dynamic pricing in Puerto Rico, and most dates require 70,000--75,000 points for rooms that only cost $250--$350 in cash. Peak dates are even worse -- points spike to 118,000 or even 590,000 while cash rates do not rise proportionally.

The best CPP (0.86¢) only appears on specific high-cash dates when the hotel charges $648+ while keeping points at 75,000. Those dates exist but they are the exception, not the rule.

So why include it? Because if you are sitting on a pile of Hilton points with no plans to switch to Hyatt, the Caribe Hilton is still the best Hilton property on the island. Cherry-pick the dates where cash rates are highest and points are at 70,000--75,000. With 5th Night Free, a well-timed 5-night stay at 75,000 points per night costs 300,000 total (pay 4, get 5). If you can catch a $500+ cash rate night, the CPP improves to a more reasonable 0.67¢.

With Amex Membership Rewards transferring at 1:2, you need 150,000 Amex MR for that 5-night stay. Wait for a 50% bonus (they run 2-3 times per year) and it drops to 100,000 Amex MR.

---

7. Bali Hotel Adults Only Isla Verde, a Trademark by Wyndham (Best Adults-Only)

Program: Wyndham Rewards Points: 30,000/night | Cash: $176--$404/night Best CPP: 1.35¢ | Avg CPP: 0.79¢ Transfer: Chase UR 1:1 | Bilt 1:1 | Capital One 1:1 | Citi TYP 1:1

Wyndham Rewards is often overlooked, but the Bali Hotel is a hidden gem. It is an adults-only boutique hotel on Isla Verde beach -- think more intimate and stylish compared to the big-box resorts down the strip.

At a flat 30,000 Wyndham points per night, the value spikes when cash rates hit the $300--$400 range. The average CPP of 0.79¢ is decent for Wyndham, and the best-case 1.35¢ is strong.

Wyndham Rewards is one of the most transfer-friendly programs: Chase UR, Bilt, Capital One, and Citi ThankYou Points all transfer 1:1. If you have any of these currencies sitting around, the Bali Hotel is worth a look.

How to Get Your Points There

Puerto Rico is a Chase Ultimate Rewards playground. Here are the best transfer paths:

Chase Ultimate Rewards (Best Overall)

  • World of Hyatt -- 1:1 instant transfer. This is the move. 8,000--23,000 UR per night covers every Hyatt on the island.
  • Marriott Bonvoy -- 1:1 transfer. For Dorado Beach or the 14 Marriott properties.
  • IHG One Rewards -- 1:1 transfer. Only one option (Holiday Inn Ponce).
  • Wyndham Rewards -- 1:1 instant transfer. Three properties on the island.

Amex Membership Rewards

  • Hilton Honors -- 1:2 instant transfer (+ periodic 50% bonuses pushing it to 1:3). Best path for Caribe Hilton and the 11 Hilton properties.
  • Marriott Bonvoy -- 1:1 transfer + 25% bonus on select promotions.

Bilt Rewards Points

Bilt transfers 1:1 to Hyatt (instant), Marriott, IHG, Hilton, and Wyndham. If you are earning Bilt from rent payments, Puerto Rico is one of the best redemption targets.

The Best Strategy

If you have Chase UR: transfer to Hyatt. A 5-night trip at Hyatt Place Manatí costs 40,000 UR. The same trip at Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve costs 100,000 UR. Both deliver over 1.5¢ per point.

If you have Amex MR: wait for a Hilton transfer bonus (they run 2-3 times per year at 1:3), then book the Caribe Hilton on a high-cash-rate date. 5 nights = 300,000 Hilton points = 100,000 Amex MR at the bonus rate.

The Traps to Avoid

Not every points hotel in Puerto Rico is worth your points.

San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino -- Looks like a prime Condado beachfront pick, but the numbers tell a different story. Dynamic pricing ranges from 68,000 to 94,000 Marriott points per night, while cash rates average just $409. That works out to 0.51¢ per point on average. The Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve delivers 3.5x better CPP for a superior resort experience.

Embassy Suites Dorado del Mar -- 70,000 to 208,000 Hilton points per night for a hotel averaging $324 in cash. That is 0.41¢ per point. The Dorado location is nice, but you are leaving massive value on the table compared to any Hyatt on the island.

Most Hilton properties -- Across Puerto Rico, Hilton's dynamic pricing is brutal. Points costs swing wildly (some dates hit 200,000+ for mid-range properties) while cash rates stay moderate. Out of 11 Hilton hotels on the island, the average CPP ranges from 0.41¢ to 0.47¢. If you are choosing between transferring to Hilton or Hyatt, always check the numbers first.

Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort -- A beachfront Marriott that charges 44,000 to 75,000 points per night for an average cash rate of $335. That is 0.59¢ per point -- and you are right next door to the Hyatt Centric Isla Verde, which delivers 1.41¢ CPP. Same beach, nearly 3x the points value.

What to Do in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico offers far more than pool time:

  • Old San Juan -- Walk the cobblestone streets, visit El Morro fortress, and eat your way through local restaurants. Budget a full day minimum.
  • El Yunque National Forest -- The only tropical rainforest in the US National Forest System. Book a time slot in advance at recreation.gov. The Juan Diego Falls trail is the highlight.
  • Bioluminescent Bays -- Puerto Rico has three of the world's bio bays. Mosquito Bay in Vieques is the brightest (Guinness World Record). Laguna Grande in Fajardo is the most accessible from San Juan by kayak tour.
  • Rincón -- Surfing capital of the Caribbean on the west coast. Great day trip from Aguadilla-area hotels.
  • Flamenco Beach, Culebra -- Consistently ranked among the best beaches in the world. Take the ferry from Fajardo.
---

Bottom Line

Puerto Rico is one of the strongest points destinations in the Caribbean. No passport required, direct flights from most US cities, and a massive selection of points hotels across every major program.

The headline: Hyatt dominates. All seven World of Hyatt properties rank in the top seven by CPP value, with the Hyatt Place Manatí delivering 2.35¢ per point on average. If you have Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt points, transfer to Hyatt first.

For Hilton and Marriott loyalists, be careful. Hilton's dynamic pricing in Puerto Rico is particularly aggressive -- most properties average under 0.50¢ per point. The Caribe Hilton is the best of the bunch, but only if you cherry-pick dates with high cash rates. Marriott is better at properties like Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve if you have the points balance for it.

A smart 5-night itinerary: 2 nights at Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve (beach resort + El Yunque access) + 3 nights at Hyatt Place San Juan (city exploration + Old San Juan) = 76,000 Hyatt points total. That is 76,000 Chase UR, offsetting $1,300+ in cash rates. Hard to beat.
